CM Says 1.25 Lakh Households Covered Under Round-the-Clock Electricity Plan

Srinagar Dec 24 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that continuous electricity is now being provided to 108 areas of Srinagar, bringing a large part of the summer capital under a round-the-clock power supply system.

He said the move has ensured regular power to nearly 1.25 lakh households, which together account for close to 48 percent of the city. The Chief Minister congratulated the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) for expanding the 24-hour electricity network within Srinagar.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office said that officials had briefed Omar Abdullah about the inclusion of 83 additional areas under uninterrupted power supply. With this expansion, the total number of Srinagar localities receiving 24-hour electricity has reached 108, providing relief to a significant section of residents.

The Chief Minister said the progress was achieved following a distribution system trial conducted under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said the trial helped in improving supply management and identifying areas suitable for continuous power delivery.

He added that work is underway in other districts to replicate the same model and improve electricity availability beyond the capital city.

Officials said the RDSS, launched by the central government in July 2021, focuses on strengthening power distribution systems by reducing losses and improving operational efficiency. In Srinagar, the scheme is being implemented by KPDCL with support from other agencies through infrastructure upgrades and smart metering.

The government said the Srinagar experience will guide similar power supply projects in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
