‘With BJP eying Srinagar mayorship, pro-secular forces unite to fight it out’

Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNS): The rightwing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eying Srinagar’s mayorship claiming they have the support of 40 corporators to elect a new mayor for the city. The BJP claims that the sitting mayor Junaid Matoo has failed to deliver the services. “So there are some 40 corporators who want a new mayor and are in touch with BJP to elect a new mayor.”
However Junaid Matoo who is in detention since August 5 claimed that all the corporators must unite to fight the unconstitutional onslaught of BJP.
“The BJP is trying to unconstitutionally topple the present SMC Mayor. We will not allow that to happen. We are all united. All secular forces are on the same platform. There are some 3-4 corporators who support the BJP,” Matoo told KNS.
Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee President Ghulam Ahmad Mir also backed the secular forces. Saying that all the pro-secular parties are united and we will fight the BJP’s unconstitutional war against the state of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
