Jammu, Apr 18 (KNS): Amid tight security arrangements, particularly in the Kakryal, in Katra, the President Ram Nath Kovind today reached here as part of his two-day visit to the Jammu division.
Sources told KNS that elaborate security arrangements were put in place in Jammu Division for President Ram Nath Kovinds visit. “President arrived at the Governor’s house around 10 am. “The president, Governor Vohra and chief minister Mehbooba Mufti then reached the SMVDU where he address the students besides present Gold medals and PhD degrees to them,” sources maintained.
According to official sources, while the President participated in the convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Kakryal, in Katra, is also scheduled to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine tomorrow.
Sources said that tight security arrangements were in place in the entire Jammu division. “Apart from police the central armed forces, was involved in providing security at the airport and on the road routes the President travel,” sources maintained.
“The routes from the airport to Raj Bhavan and from here to the Katra saw heavy presence of security forces,” sources said. Sources said that Traffic on various routes was diverted.
During his earlier visit, the President had visited the Ladakh region on August 21 last year where he presented the President’s Colours to the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre and the five battalions of the regiment.
Sources said that the President will attend a dinner hosted by the Governor at Raj Bhawan.
Meanwhile sources told KNS that Kovind after presenting degrees to the students during the sixth convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, at Kakryal in Reasi district, expressed his anguish over the recent rape and murder incident.
“Society has to provide safety and security to children. The incident in J&K is an eye-opener for society and that moral values were eroding,” according to sources the president said.
Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti were also present. (KNS)
