'I had limited power, couldn’t end PSA,' says Sajad Lone

Srinagar, October 20 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) chairman Sajad Lone on Monday responded to a senior journalist’s remarks questioning his handling of the Public Safety Act (PSA) during his tenure as a minister in the former Jammu and Kashmir government.

Writing on X, Lone said he accepts limited responsibility but argued it is unfair to hold him accountable for a law he neither introduced nor had the authority to repeal.

“I accept my role as a minister for 2.5 years. I had minimal influence with only one MLA. That is not enough to change a law like PSA,” Lone wrote.

He called for an objective discussion on the origins and application of the PSA, stating that accountability should lie with those who introduced the law and implemented it.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“We should discuss who scripted and introduced PSA, who applied it, and who had the authority to repeal it. The situation under PSA is not defensible,” he added.

Lone also compared the PSA to the police verification certificate process, noting both affect the lives of residents in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, the journalist had questioned Lone’s inaction on the PSA during his time as a BJP-supported minister, noting the law’s continued use.(KNS).
