Locals appeal DC for intervention as forest deptt refuses to help

Handwara, Dec 04 (KNS): The decayed and overage “deodar” trees in Bagdaji, Nowgam Handwara are posing a life threat to many as the trees if uprooted would result in human casualty at any time.
Locals told KNS that the trees which are few in number have lived their life and are now in decayed form which has posed huge threat to their life and property. They claimed that last year a local high school building and two residential houses were completely damaged in Sheikh Mohalah after couple of trees fell on it.
They said they had approached forest department officers many a times and even produced revenue records which show all the residential houses are on propriety land, but that forest officials were reluctant in coming to their rescue.
The locals further told KNS that now when the winter has already set in, the fresh snowfall may further loosen the soil resulting in the uprooting of these decayed trees which was a cause of worry for them. They have appealed Deputy Commissioner Kupwara for intervention. (KNS)
