Anantnag, Aug 27(KNS): Floods in South Kashmir have submerged the district court complex in Anantnag, halting regular court functions. Despite the situation, Principal District Judge Tahir Khursheed Raina reached the court premises by boat on Wednesday.
The judge, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Feroz Ahmed Khan, visited the court building to check the condition of the premises and judicial records.
The court complex, including courtrooms and record rooms, was under water due to continuous rainfall and flooding.
Judge Raina directed police authorities to handle remand cases and bail matters without delay. He said that even during natural disasters, access to justice must continue.
Court staff have confirmed that regular proceedings remain suspended. However, steps are being taken to protect court records and manage urgent matters.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The district administration is monitoring the situation, and further decisions will be taken based on weather and flood levels.
Authorities are expected to assess the damage and consider temporary arrangements if the court remains inaccessible.
Notably, more than 5,000 people were evacuated from the banks of various flooded rivers and inundated low-lying areas in the UT as rescue agencies and the administration continued to reach out to stranded people in flood-hit areas.
Most of the Jammu division, which has been inundated by flash floods triggered by heavy rains, continued to receive rain, although of less intensity.
Efforts to restore water supply, electricity and internet services that have been severely hit are underway, but schools and colleges have been ordered shut.(KNS).
