‎Mehar Ali alleges Wildlife Department allowing construction, seeks blanket ban, action against officials

‎Srinagar, Sep 30 (KNS): Kangan MLA Meher Ali on Wednesday alleged that hotels were being constructed in Ganderbal despite a ban on such construction and accused the Wildlife Department of allowing permissions to non-local people while ignoring the interests of local residents.
‎
‎Raising the issue in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Ali alleged that the department was issuing permissions for construction of hotels and other structures to non-locals despite restrictions in place.
‎
‎He also alleged that the department was itself violating government norms by allowing construction that was resulting in the destruction of green belts.
‎

‎He questioned how such construction was being allowed despite the restrictions and said the issue needed to be examined by the government.
‎
‎Ali urged Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to direct the government to impose a blanket ban on construction in the affected areas and sought action against officials of the Wildlife Department for alleged violations of government norms.
‎
‎The MLA said protection of the green belt should be ensured and alleged that the department responsible for safeguarding such areas was itself allowing their degradation.

‎He sought intervention of the House to stop the construction activity and initiate action against the concerned department.(KNS)
