SSP Srinagar says locals assisted police in catching accused; 'FIR lodged, accused formally arrested'

Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNS): Srinagar police on Friday said that they immediately arrested a person after he barged into a residential house in Momin Abad area of Batamaloo in Srinagar and tried to attack two girls.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal said that the accused person was arrested in a swift action by the police after matter was reported to them.

He identified the accused as Umer Yousuf Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani of Firdous Abad Lane No.15 in Batamaloo. "The accused had entered the residential house and tried to attack two girls inside the house, however, one of the girls raised hue and cry. Later, as the matter was reported to the police, we immediately swung into action and arrested the accused," he said.

He also said that the local of the area assisted police in catching the accused "FIR has been lodged and the accused has been formally arrested. His police remand will be sought from court for further investigation," he said. 

Meanwhile, Srinagar police in a Tweet said that crime against women will not be tolerated at all.

"The accused namely Umer Yousuf Wani who trespassed a house and tried to attack two girls in Batmaloo area has been arrested by Police in a swift action. Crime against Women will not be tolerated at all," police tweeted. (KNS)
