Kupwara, April 15 (KNS): With an overwhelming response from students the, Youth Service and Sports Kupwara has engaged more than 1 lakh students in various sports activities from 2022 till March 2023 at different level of participation's, thus setting record of highest participation in Kashmir division.

According to the details available with Kashmir News Service (KNS), the Youth Service & Sports Kupwara has engaged 1,22,233 students in series of sports activities at different level of participation's, which includes 71283 boys and 48950 girl, the highest participation in Kashmir division.

These activities have been conducted at different level of participation's, comprising, School Level, Zonal Level, District Level, Provincial Level, State/UT Level and National Level. The district has seen massive participation at School and Zonal level, however zero participation from district Kupwara at State and National level.

With intention to involve more and more youth of the district in sports to make them physically fit by grooming them from the grassroots level, the department is about to resume the sports activities across all the zones of the district as the Ramadan ends.

Besides sports engagement, the department has also engaged, 73764 students in various events like, Independence Day, Azaddi Ka Amrut Mahaotsav, World Bicycle Day, LG's Rolling Trophy, Clean India Campaign, 8th International Yoga Day, International Drug Abuse Day, Youth Rally, National Sports Day, Jan Abhiyaan, Run For Unity,Youth National Day, Gram Swaraj Mahina, Nasha Mukht Bharat, My town my pride, International Women's Day

Senior sports expert Khursheed Ahmad said that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are very enthusiastic and have always proved their talent in every discipline.

“The sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir particularly Kupwara needs serious attention. Our students show their will by participating at initial level, but they couldn’t make it to state or national level, because we lack quality sports equipment’s and trained coaches,” he said.

There is no dearth of talent in the district, but the YSS Kupwara need to move beyond umbers and ensure our students make participation at National level, he added.

Chief Sports Officer Kupwara, Jatinder Singh said that due to Covid-19, sports activities came at pause, otherwise they had series of achievements at both State and National level.

“However, our staff members are putting all their efforts this year to make it at both state national level. As Ramadan ends, sports activities across all schools will gain momentum, and I request every student to take part in variety of games conducted by us,” he added.

Meanwhile the Administrative Council in October last year approved transfer of land measuring 60 Kanal at Village Haqanibad Kupwara to Youth Service & Sports Department for construction of a sports stadium.

The high class stadium will boost the sports infrastructure in the district. (KNS)
