Srinagar, August 14 (KNS): Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Friday said that security forces will leave no space for militants to take over in any part of Valley. Terming the militant strike in Nowgam area of Srinagar district “very unfortunate”, DGP said anti-militancy operations will be intensified across to neutralize the remaining active militants.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the DGP reiterated that security forces will leave no room for militants to take over in Valley. “Be it Police, Army, CRPF or else, we are committed for maintenance of peace across the Valley and militants will not be allowed to sabotage the peaceful atmosphere and they will be given no space to take over in Valley”, DGP said.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of wreath-laying ceremony of slain policemen identified as Fayaz Ahmed and Ishfaq Ayoub in Humhama, the DGP Singh said that initial inputs suggested that Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit is behind the attack. “Police and other agencies are busy identifying the attackers and we will act against them soon,” the J&K police chief said.
Earlier militants in Nowgam area of Srinagar carried out an attack on police deployment and injured three policemen on spot among them two lost their lives on the arrival of hospital while another policeman got injured whose condition, according to police sources, is said to be stable.
DGP said that ahead of August 15 celebrations, it has become a routine for militants to carry out such attacks like in past in order to show their presence but security forces will leave no chance to get peace derailed.
DGP said that initial reports suggested that proscribed militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad has carried out the Nowgam attack and asserted that police will act tough against the attackers soon.
He said police was engaged to ensure deployment in vital and vulnerable spots in view of August 15. “It is unfortunate that militants found a chance to attack a joint party of SSB and police at Nowgam and left two cops dead and another injured”, DGP said.
Hitting out at neighboring country, DGP said that peaceful Kashmir doesn’t digest to Pakistan who is always in search of sabotaging peaceful atmosphere in Valley. “Pakistan can’t tolerate peace in the region and keep trying to carry out violent acts aimed to disrupt the peace in Valley”, DGP added.
Singh said that anti-militancy operations will be intensified in days to come and no chance will be given militants to take over in Valley.
