Weatherman predicts flash floods in J&K from July 19-21

Srinagar, Jul 17 (KNS): The Meteorological Department Saturday issued a warning about moderate to high risk of flash flood in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of fresh wet spell expected to start from July 19 to 21.

Kashmir news service (KNS), has accessed a copy of weather warning issued by the Meteorological department, reads that lower and middle level tropospheric winds from north Arabian sea is most likely to interact with Easterly Winds (from Bay of Bengal) from 19 to 21 July.

The Meteorological department said that the system is most likely to cause widespread heavy to very heavy rain, thunder with lightning at most places of Jammu mainly in Pirpanjal Range and plains of Jammu division from 19th to 21 and Moderate to heavy rain, thunder with lightning in many places of Kashmir division during the said period.

It said that the disturbance may also disrupt surface traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway, Srinagar-Leh highway, Doda-Kishtwar and Mughal Road besides causing water logging in low lying areas, disruption in agriculture activities and landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable spots(KNS).
