Vehicle with illicit timber seized in Handwara

Handwara, May 07 (KNS): A vehicle loaded with illicit timber was seized on Saturday by forest department officials in Baghtpora village of Kupwara district. 

 
A senior forest official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that acting on a tip off about the movement of a vehicle with illicit timber in Rajwar range, a special team of officials under the command of DFO Langate and Range officer Rajwar operation was carried out to trace the vehicle.
 
"The vehicle was intercepted in Baghtpora village and the driver was asked to stop but he did not cooperate with the officials and tried to flee from the spot. After hectic efforts, the officials managed to seize the vehicle, however, driver along with other smugglers fled from the spot,” he added.
 
The official said that the other offenders, who are notorious smugglers, have been identified and will be taken to task soon. 
 
He added around 17.68 Cft timber was seized and it was to be smuggled in a cab bearing registration number (JKO9A 1788).
 
Meanwhile, a police complaint had been lodged in the concerned police station for further investigation. (KNS)
