Langate June 02 (KNS): The inhabitants of Kralgund locality of Langate in north Kashmir's Kupwara district are up in arms against the Tehsil administration Kralgund for failing to prevent the vacant land from turning into a garbage dumping site.

The residents, while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) demanded that the landfill site be cleared for the larger interest of the people.

They said that the land around Tehsil office and Horticulture Department is rapidly turning into a garbage dumping site due to the negligence of the concerned authorities as they have failed to take any action to clear the land.

They said that they have approached many officials in this regard but nothing has been done so far. “We are requesting Tehsil administration to remove garbage from the vacant area, and ensure no one throws garbage there in future, they said.

"The presence of garbage in the vacant land is a threat to our lives as foul smell pervades in the atmosphere. The site has turned to be a shelter for dozens of canines due to which the children of the locality feel scared pass by around the area,” said a student Ubaid Khawaja, a local resident.

Meanwhile, when contacted Tehsildar Kralgund Qaziabad Umar Ahmad assured action in this regard and said that if anyone found throwing garbage their will be booked, he said.

We will also raise issue with district administration to have a dumping site in the area, he added. (KNS)
