Provide adequate Ventilators, X-Ray, USG machines to district hospitals: Adv. Mir Javed

Srinagar, June 22 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) leader Advocate Mir Javed on Monday expressed deep concern on infrastructural deficit in almost all government hospitals especially at district and sub district levels across Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued to KNS , Javed said that if the government is serious in reducing the unnecessary burden on its tertiary care health institutions in Srinagar and Jammu, then it should go for immediate revamping of health infrastructure at district and sub district levels across both divisions of J&K.

Referring to the plight of patients in district Kupwara, Mir urged the government for comprehensive assessment of healthcare facilities in all districts across J&K especially in their respective catchments areas. “People in Kupwara district especially in Kralpore, Panzgam Chowkibal areas are suffering immensely for want of basic healthcare needs,” he added.

Javed stressed on the health department to shift the sub district hospital Kralpore-Kupwara to its newly constructed building and equip all the hospitals in the district with requisite testing facilities on priority.

“There was already a dire need which has been now increased manifold by the COVID pandemic, for ventilators, X-Ray machines and ultrasonography machines in almost all the major hospitals across J&K. The health department should go for upgradation of infrastructures in hospitals in light of high population ratio depending on the local healthcare institutions,” he said.

The JKAP leader observed that providing testing equipment and other allied facilities in Kupwara hospitals especially at sub district levels will not only cater to the local needs but would eventually reduce the number of referrals from the district.

He said that due to non-availability of testing facilities and life support system in district hospitals, patients from rural Jammu and Kashmir are compelled to shift to tertiary hospitals in Srinagar to get themselves treated properly.

“The lack of facilities in district, SDHs, PHCs across Jammu and Kashmir is also a reason for the doctors working in these hospitals not to take any chances on the lives of poor patients. These doctors are left with no option but to refer the patients to Srinagar or Jammu tertiary care hospitals in order to save their lives,” Javed observed.

He appealed to Lieutenant Governor G.C Murmu to include up gradation of healthcare infrastructure in J&K among his top priorities of governance. “The people of rural Kashmir have pinned all their hopes for development on the LG who himself being from a rural background knows the difficulties faced by the people,” the JKAP leader opined.(KNS)
