Unscheduled power cuts have aggravated woes of people in the valley: Vakil

Sopore January 14 (KNS): J&K People's Conference senior vice president and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, expressed serious concern over power crisis in the Valley and said that the unscheduled power cuts have aggravated woes of people in the valley especially in Rafiabad, Sopore.

Vakil visited different villages of Sopore and Rafiabad especially Warpora, Janwari, Muqam-Shareef, Manzseer, Mogrepora and Hibdangerpora, and said that despite a load-shedding schedule announced by the government, unscheduled and frequent power cuts continue unabated and people are facing massive inconvenience due to power cuts.

Power cuts are randomised in Rafiabad and Sopore and the Power Department has “abysmally failed” to implement its own given schedule, Vakil said.

"It is preposterous that people have been forced to go without electricity for days together even in the metered areas. The power crises are worse in non-metered areas where people are rendered helpless in the absence of electricity," Vakil added.

He further maintained that the present power crisis has exposed the tall claims of UT administration of enhancing energy supply which is totally a white lie.

"There is no schedule for power which is causing lot of inconvenience to general public especially the old and ailing as well as students who are preparing for examinations to be held in the month of March, " he said.

Vakil exhorted the UT government to implement its own schedule in letter and spirit so that people in general, and students in particular, will not suffer more.

Vakil also paid visits to the family of fire victims whose houses were set ablaze in the recent fire accident and demanded relief for the fire-sufferers.(KNS)
