Physical fitness part of sound mental health: Prof. Bukhari

Srinagar, Jun 06 (KNS):  Two-week-long workshop on Yoga began on Monday at National Institute of Technology and the inaugural session was attended by more than 150 participants from the college.

The 14-day-long workshop is being organized by Department of Physical Education and Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal is the Chief patron and Institute’s Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari is the patron of the workshop.

In his message, In-Charge Director NIT Srinagar Prof. M A Ahanger said the workshop is aimed at raising awareness among participants about fitness and health. 

He urged participants to not make Yoga restricted to this workshop only but make it an important segment of their daily lives.

Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari while declaring the workshop open emphasized on benefits of Yoga. He said regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness. It relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration,” he said.

Prof. Bukhari said Yoga improves mental strength, balance, and flexibility. It does not require any expensive equipment and can be done anywhere.  It has the power to bring about positive transformation in our lives, he said.

On the occasion, Dr. Srinibash Mishra said the workshop is aimed to raise awareness about Yoga and its benefits.

"During the 14-day workshop, Yoga experts will hold several training sessions on various types of Yoga including Asana, Pranayama, Diyana, and Shatkarma," he said.

Dr. Misra said yoga is something that should be performed in daily life to avail its benefits in one’s life and urged participants to make yoga part of their daily life.

After attending the workshop, the participants shared their experiences and expressed the benefits of meditation and Sudarshan kriya such as focus and concentration.

The inaugural session was attended by  Dr. Srinibash Mishra (Convener), Kowsar Ali Mir (Co-Convener), Sohail Ahmad Baba (Co-ordinator), Ab. Gani ( Sr.Technician), Gh. Hassan ( Sr.Technician), Ab. Rashid (Office Attendant), Habib Ullah (Groundman), Mohmmad Akbar (Ground man)

This year 8th edition of International Day of Yoga will be celebrated with the theme “Yoga for Humanity” and the main event of IDY 2022 demonstration will be held at Mysuru, Karnataka. (KNS)
