Srinagar, Oct 13 (KNS): The Inspector General of Police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar on Wednesday said that a top JeM militant commander has been killed in the encounter that broke out in Tral area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday afternoon, police said here.

Kashmir zone police, quoting IGP Kashmir on its official Twitter handle as per Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that top JeM militant commander Sham Sofi has been killed in Tral encounter.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of forces laid a cordon and search operation in Tilwani Mohalla of Waggad in Tral following the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. (KNS)
