 Srinagar, Feb 21 (KNS): In a first, Forest department in collaboration with floriculture department on Monday transplanted a major chinar tree at famous Char Chinar in Dal Lake after two of the four chinars had got damaged.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that a huge chinar tree were transported in barges to Char Chinar for transplantation as two of the chinars had got damaged. 

Notably, after September 2014 floods, two of the four chinar trees at Char Chinar had got damaged and later in place of these two damaged chinar trees, two new saplings were planted, but they did not mature.

The official said that today forest department in collaboration with floriculture department transported a huge chinar tree for transplantation at the Char Chinar in order to regain its lost glory.

He also said that, as the weather improves another chinar will be transplanted. 

He said that these trees were taken from Foreshore road and one of thee threes was transplanted today.

The official said that the initiative was taken after LG Manoj Singha last week during a review meeting asked the concerned officials to take steps for regaining the glory of Char Chinar on urgent basis. (KNS)
