Three TRF militants killed in Shopian encounter: Police

Srinagar, Dec 08 (KNS): Three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba or TRF militant outfit were killed in an encounter in Check Cholan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said here.

In a statement, issued yo Kashmir News Service (KNS)  a spokesperson said that acting on a specific input generated by Police regarding the presence of militant in Check Cholan area, a cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 34RR and 178Bn CRPF in the area.

The statement reads that during the search operation, as the presence of militants got ascertained, they were given repeated opportunities to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated, leading to an encounter.

It reads that in the ensuing encounter three militants of LeT (TRF) outfit were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.

“They have been identified as Amir Hussain Ganie son of Manzoor Ahmad, Rayees Ahmed Mir son of Nazir Ahmad—both residents of Shopian and Haseeb Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Khudwani Kulgam,” it reads.

It reads that one AK 74 rifle and two pistols were recovered from the possession.

“As per police records, they were categorized militants linked with LeT (TRF) and were part of groups involved in several militant crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities.”

It reads that Aamir Hussain was active since September 2020 and was involved in several crime cases including Case FIR No. 264/2021 of PS Shopian regarding attack on Police/SF at Village Rakhma on 01/10/2021.

“He was also involved in luring gullible youth to join militant folds. While as Rayees Ahmad was active since June 2021 and was involved in several crime cases including attack on Police/SF. He was also involved in attack on Police/SF at Village Rakhma. Besides, Haseeb Yousuf was also involved in several crime cases in the areas of Kulgam,” it reads.

As per the statement, IGP Kashmir congratulated the joint teams for carrying out the operation in a professional manner without any collateral damage. (KNS)
