Srinagar, Feb 04 (KNS): Democratic Azad Party (DAP) Chairman and former J&K chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday said that those having possession of few marlas of state land shouldn't be touched in the ongoing eviction drive, and added "Those gobbled huge amount of land should not be allowed to go untouched".

The former chief minister of erstwhile state of J&K however welcomed the fresh statement of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that land and livelihood of poor and commoner will not be touched. He at the occasion directed party leaders and workers to end their protests that were aimed to generate pressure on the administration to withdraw or revisit the fresh orders pertaining to state land and kahcharai.

"It will be my humble appeal to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha to intervene into the matter as lot of chaos exist on ground amidst ongoing eviction drive. It seems there is lot of communication gap. The orders come either from Chief Secretary's office, DCs or LG. The directions should come from only one office - LGs office and this is the way forward to end the chaos among masses", Azad said.

He said those having possession of 5, 10, 15 marlas of state land shouldn't be touched, however who grabbed vast amount of land shouldn't be spared.

Azad said we are in favour of the government's step against those who have grabbed a huge chunk of land illegally. "We urge the government not to touch people who have set up their business units or shops on just one or two marlas of land so that they are not forced to starve,” he said.

He added government has done tremendous efforts in bringing huge number of tourists in J&K however these endeavors shouldn't have been belittled in pretext of eviction drives. (KNS)
