Supreme Court verdict on plea challenging J&K Delimitation Commission today

Srinagar, Feb 13 (KNS): The Supreme Court will pronounce its judgment on challenging constitution of Delimitation Commission for redrawing the Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports reaching the news agency KNS said two  persons Haji Abdul Gani Khan and Muhammad Ayub Matto from Srinagar had filed a petition challenging constitutional validity of the delimitation exercise.

In their plea they have mentioned the exercise cannot be carried out before 2026.

Notably, delimitation commission has completed the exercise in May last year, redrawing 90 assembly and five parliamentary constituencies in the Union Territory.

The exercise was carried out under J&K Reorganisation Act after special status of Jammu and Kashmir scrapped by abrogating Article 370 and 35-A and the erstwhile state was divided into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. (KNS)
