Srinagar-Leh Highway, Mughal, Gurez-Bandipora Roads Closed Amid Snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 09 (KNS): Snowfall on Friday forced the closure of Srinagar-Leh highway as well as historic Mughal road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian.


An official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that Srinagar-leh Highway was closed amid snowfall around areas of Sonamarg, besides historic Mughal road was closed following snowfall in Pir Ki Gali.

Meanwhile, Jammu-Srinagar was through for the traffic when this report was filed. "Traffic update at 0700 hrs. "Traffic plying on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Mughal road and SSG Road closed for vehicular movement due to fresh snowfall," an official said in a tweet.

"In view of the forecast for snow fall and as a precautionary measure, today on 09-12-2022 ( Friday) traffic shall remain suspended on Bandipora Gurez road," SDM Gurez Mudasir Ahmad said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the independent weather forecaster said that : "Intermittent Rain/Snow expected in Jammu, Kashmir and UT Ladakh for next 36hrs". It said that the light to moderate rain activities are expected at most parts of plains of Kashmir and light to moderate snowfall over upper reaches.

"Moderate snowfall are expected at few higher reaches particularly north Kashmir and sinthan top , peer ki gali of south Kashmir. Light to moderate snowfall is also expected at Ladakh , light rain may occur over Jammu region. Chances of light snow over plains of Kashmir is 40%," it added.(KNS).
