Srinagar admin asks landlords to submit tenants’ details within 10 days

Srinagar, April 05 (KNS): The Srinagar district administration issued a directive on Wednesday that requires landlords to submit their tenants' details to the local police station within ten days of letting or subletting their properties.

The order, signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Aijaz Assad, applies to all types of rental arrangements, including paying guests.

The move comes in response to the need to verify the identities of tenants residing in rented accommodations throughout the city following a series of social crimes and illicit activities in the area.

The order stipulates that violators will face punishment under the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the CrPC. The order takes immediate effect and will remain in force for 60 days unless withdrawn earlier.

The recent bust of a prostitution racket operated out of a rented accommodation in Bagh-e-Mehtab prompted the government to issue the order. The landlord of the property was also charged under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act of 1956. (KNS)
