Presides over Ramadan Cricket Cup held at Noonmai Kulgam

Srinagar Apr 17 (KNS):  The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Spokesperson and Incharge Constituency Kulgam Imran Nabi Dar Kulgam on Monday said that sports and creative activities will go a long way towards combating the raging drug menace in Kashmir.

 
Speaking at the award ceremony of Ramadan Cricket Cup held at Noonmai Kulgam, Imran stressed on providing impetus to activities and develop mechanisms to mitigate youth vulnerabilities associated with crime and drug use. “Sports can equip our youth with the skills they need to cope with different life situations and avoid turning to drugs. However, the right sports should be used to equip individuals with the skills they need to overcome addiction and lead sober lives,” he said. 


Unfortunately, a number of youth have turned to drugs, Imran said the epidemic of drug addiction  and substance abuse as reported by different studies have been attributed to Unemployment, and lack of avenues for youth to vent their pent up feelings. "There are different measures taken by the state government to eliminate this curb, including running a number of drug De-Addiction centres in the Kashmir valley. I firmly believe that directing the energy of our youth towards sports and other artistic activities will make a greater impact in combating the growing menace.


He was accompanied by Block Presidents Ijaz Shah, Mohammad Ayub Pala, Arshad Shah, YNC District President Aadil Guroo, Vice President Mushtaq Shah, Dist Secretary Nasir Khan and others. (KNS)
