Jammu, Jan 12 (KNS) ; The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Monday issued the provisional calendar for the upcoming Budget Session of the House.
The session is scheduled to commence on Monday, February 2, 2026.
According to an official communication obtained by Kashmir News Service (KNS), the fifth session of the Assembly will span from February through early April, featuring a comprehensive agenda of legislative and financial business.
The session will begin with the Address by the Lieutenant Governor on the opening day. This will be followed by a multi-day Discussion on the Motion of Thanks, with a reply scheduled for February 5.
Critical financial proceedings including the presentation of the Annual Financial Statement (Budget) for the fiscal year 2026-27, along with the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025-26, on February 6.

Subsequent weeks will be devoted to the detailed examination and voting on Demands for Grants from various government departments. This process will lead to the introduction of Appropriation Bills in early March. The latter part of the session has been reserved for Private Members’ Business, including bills and resolutions.
The calendar designates official holidays, including February 15 and Good Friday on April 3, with Sundays marked as weekly off-days.
Notably, this year's Budget Session has been convened approximately one month earlier than usual. Officials indicate this adjustment, previously suggested by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, accounts for the forthcoming holy month of Ramzan, ensuring the legislative schedule accommodates the comfort of all members.
