SKUAST-K student gets first prize at National Youth Parliament

Srinagar April 17:(KNS)   National Environment Youth Parliament(NEYP) 2022 at the Parliament House hosted by Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies in association with PSG was held on 16 th April, 2022.

The Mega event was conducted in 3 phases, the first was the university level competition in which 50,000 students participated all over the country. From the university level, 150 students were selected from 10 regions. From Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) four students namely Saira Laherwaal from Faculty of Horticulture, Hamnah Naseem from Faculty of Agriculture , Aymen Qamri from Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and AH and Munjid Maryam from College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology were selected among from Agricultural universities in Zone II.

SKUAST-K student Munjid Maryam represented Ministry of New and Renewable energy, Ayeman Qamri was a Treasury bench member and Hamnah Naseem and Sairah Laharwal were a part of the Press Board. Om Birla Lok Sabha Speaker) Parliament of India Presided as the Chief Guest during Youth Parliament Session 2 and Bhupender Yadav Union Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India and Savji Cholakia Ji, Padma Shree Awardee were the Guests of Honour. Dr Syed Naseem Zafar, Environmental Nodal Officer (ENO) and Students Welfare officer, who accompanied the Participants and was a part of ENO Conference held at Manav Rachna International University in which participants deliberated upon how to take the steps forward further for the conservation of our environment.

Ms Munjid Maryam competed with the 138 top finalists of various states and union territories and managed to grab the highest Award of the national event, The Best Speaker Award. The students were mentored by Department of students welfare, SKUAST K headed by Dean Students welfare, Prof. M.A.A.Sidiqi under the able guidance of Prof N A Ganai, Vice Chancellor of the University . Before sending the students to represent at the national level students were exposed to thorough and rigorous Mock Parliament exercises where all SWOs from various faculties were provided the much needed inputs to the students. It was by the continuous efforts of the Dean Students Welfare, and Students welfare officers at Various Faculties who made it possible for the students of SKUAST-K to join the National event. The Students and their mentors are thankful to the Vice Chancellor who sponsored their trip for the National event.(KNS)
