Srinagar, July 03 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor J&K, Manoj Sinha Monday said the Union Territory has witnessed a significant rise in foreign tourist arrivals after the G-20 Tourism Working Group meeting held in Srinagar. He expected the number to increase further in upcoming months.

According to LG Sinha, the G-20 meeting held from May 22 to May 25 this year has had a transformative impact on the tourism sector in J&K. Participants from various countries took back positive impressions, resulting in a significant boost in foreign tourist arrivals.

LG Sinha also highlighted that Srinagar is rapidly emerging as a hub for international activities. Recently, various organizations, including the Indian System of Medicines, Engineer's Association, Chartered Accountant Association, and 18 Supreme Court judges, participated in different meetings held in Srinagar.

Regarding the Prime Minister's Awas Yojna Scheme, the LG Sinha emphasized that J&K is committed to keeping pace with the initiative. The Administrative Council, in consultation with the Revenue and Rural Development Department, decided to allocate five Marla’s land to landless families in J&K. As of now, 2,711 landless families have received land, and more will be covered soon. Additionally, out of the identified 1,99,550 homeless families, 1,44,000 have received sanction letters for homes, with the rest to be covered in due course.

Regarding the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, the LG Sinha assured that the pilgrimage is proceeding smoothly with proper security arrangements in place. Approximately 4,000 sanitary workers have been deployed to maintain cleanliness during the event. However, traffic management for both tourists and locals remains an area of concern, which will be streamlined within the next two days to minimize inconvenience.

LG Sinha acknowledged that during VIP movement, people may face some inconveniences but assured that normalcy is being gradually restored, and efforts are being made to improve traffic management. A traffic regulation plan will be implemented in the next two days to ensure a smoother experience for pilgrims and locals alike.
