Srinagar, June 25 (KNS): A militant was killed during a gunfight that broke out between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday afternoon.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that earlier a joint team of forces laid a cordon and search operation in Hajipira area of Shopian.

He said that as the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter.

The official said that during the ensuing gunfight one militant has been killed, while operation was going on.(KNS)
