JAMMU, MARCH 28 (KNS): Apni Party Provincial President and Ex-Minister Manjit Singh today expressed serious concern over the skyrackting of the prices of essential commodities and anti-encroachment drive against the helpless people.

Addressing a meeting of different frontal and wings heads including District Urban, Youth Wing, SC Wing, Trade Wing, Women Wing, Minority Wing and others, Manjit Singh said that the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG have been hiked by the Govt with no justification as the people have already in financial crunch due to covid19.

“The virus has affected businesses in J&K and across the country. In this situation, increase in rates of diesel, petrol and LPG has affected the budget as the income has remained the same but the goods prices have increased making normal living difficult,” he said.

He said that the Govt should roll back the prices of the essential commodities which were increased five times within several days in an unjustified manner putting additional burden on the pocket of the people.

Meanwhile, he questioned the anti-encroachment drive in Sunjwan-Bathindi and border villages in Samba and Kathua districts where land is being snatched from them after decades.

“Firstly people were being encouraged by the respective administration to cultivate their abandoned land ahead of the fence and now the authorities after that land too. What do they want from the poor people to do? Shall they face starvation in their own J&K despite having a huge chunk of land being protected and cultivated by these farmers on the border,” he said and questioned the authorities for harassment of the innocent and poor farmers.

In the same manner, he questioned the anti-encroachment drive on Bathindi-Sunjwan road where crores of property was damaged without serving notices to the people who owned it.

“They snatched the right of livelihood from the people just to show the authority using police force in large numbers. This situation is not a good sign as a welfare state. Govts help people to come out of poverty. They never push their own people to struggle for bread and butter,” he said.

He demanded that the people should not be harassed on the name of anti-encroachment drives in Jammu region and whosoever official is found involved in such actions should face legal action.

“Displacing people or snatching their property in the name of encroachment is not justified in any case. We shall provide facilities to the people. The officials remained silent for decades and then suddenly they came with JCBs and police force to snatch properties,” he added expressing his anguish.

Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Provincial Secretary, Dr Rohit Gupta, SC Wing Coordinator, Bodh Raj Bhagat, President, Apni Trade Union, Ajaz Kazmi, senior leader Arun Chibber, State Vice president Youth Wing, Raqeeq Ahmed Khan, State General Secretary Youth Wing, Abhay Bakya, Provincial President, Jammu, Vipul Bali, Provincial President, Provincial Secretary Youth Wing, Bhanu Partap, Trade Union, Raj Sharma, Provincial Vice Presidents of Women Wing, Rupali Rani and Pavneet Kour, Provincial Senior Vice President Minority Wing, Janmeet Bali, District Vice President Jammu Urban, Vabav Mattoo, District President Women Wing Jammu, Sarbjeet Kour, District General Secretary, Atul Sharma, District Secretary Abhishekh Gowswami, District Secretary, Ashraf Choudhry, Vice President Youth Wing Joginder Singh, Provincial Secretary, Suhail Khajuria, District President Youth Wing, Shivam Choudhary, Senior Vice President District Youth Wing, Sandeep Vaid, District Vice President Youth Wing, Cherjeev, District Secretary Youth Wing Aitnder Singh, District Organising Secretary, Archana Koul, District President Trade Wing, Anirudh Vasist, Abhinav Gupta and others.(KNS)
