Revoke decision of selling alcoholic beverages in supermarkets: Social Activist Basit Hayat to LG Admin

Srinagar, October 12 (KNS): Prominent Social Activist Basit Hayat  Zargar urged LG Administration to revoke the decision of selling RTD Alcohol.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said J&K has been always a religious state and it’s against our religion." Other states like Bihar, Gujrat, Nagaland, and Lakshadweep are going for banning alcohol, the same way we are also demanding the ban of alcohol in J&K."

In response to a statement issued by the J&K administration, Basit Hayat Zargar said that the sale of alcoholic beverages in supermarkets means young people will be more frequently exposed to alcohol companies’ branding and logos,” he said. “Alcohol advertising exposure has been shown to increase early initiation of alcohol use and increased alcohol use. It can also foster brand allegiance, a factor that has been shown to lead to increased chances of young people consuming alcohol." (KNS)
