Srinagar, May 29 (KNS): After the  J&K Government last year, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSW Foundation for restoration and conservation of Shalimar and Nishat Gardens, Sangita Jindal chairperson of JSW Foundation said she feels honoured in restoring the beauty of the gardens.

She made these comments in an exclusive brief interview with news agency Kashmir News Service—KNS, soon after the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the conservation and restoration of the historic Shalimar Garden at Srinagar.

“Our country is very beautiful and Kashmir is most beautiful but due to some problems less attention was given to it and we feel honoured for doing our bit in restoration of the beauty of Kashmir”, she said.

She said that her foundation has carried out many restoration projects across India and now we are doing it in Kashmir under ‘National Integrated Project’ saying that it is a proud moment for them in contributing something good for the country and Kashmir.

Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW foundation while speaking exclusively to KNS said that he feels happy that a good number of tourists are coming to Kashmir.

“Our foundation is assigned to restore the heritage beauty of this garden which over sometime has gone dilapidated which has affected the beauty of this garden. In order to restore it’s beauty the work has been taken”, he said.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday appreciated the efforts of JSW Foundation, Conservation Architects, Floriculture Department, local artists and other experts associated with the conservation and restoration work of Shalimar Garden.

Notably, The J&K government last year inked an MoU with the JSW Foundation, a social development arm of the business house JSW Group, for restoration and conservation of the famous Mughal gardens of Shalimar and Nishat Gardens in the Kashmir valley.

The MoU was signed by Commissioner Secretary, Floriculture, and JSW Foundation chairperson Sangita Jindal in the presence of J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Gardens have remained one of the main attractions for tourists in the valley. The Floriculture Department is making dedicated efforts to preserve the historical-cultural heritage of eight Mughal Gardens. The dossier of the Mughal Gardens was already sent for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site last year and it has boosted the influx of tourists and locals to these gardens”, LG Sinha said on Saturday .(KNS)
