Weather to improve gradually from Jan 9 onwards

Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNS): The meteorological department Srinagar on Friday issued Red colour warning in Jammu and Kashmir, while predicting heavy to very heavy snowfall during January 7 and 8 in the Union Territory.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that currently it is snowing at most places of Kashmir and hilly areas of Jammu, while its raining at a few places of Jammu region. 

He said that there will be further increase in rain and snow intensity as the day progresses with main intensity of heavy to very heavy rain and now during 7th (Night) and 8th January.

The official said that there will be gradual improvement in weather condition from morning of January 09 onwards in J&K.               

He also said that the inclement weather may affect surface and air transportation in the Union Territory and may also cause avalanches and landslides at vulnerable spots.     

The weather department also asked people not to venture out in avalanche prone areas as the data shows that most avalanches are triggered during intense heavy snowfall.

It also advised people to follow traffic advisory seriously and maintain proper ventilation of rooms. (KNS)
