Railways plans two warehouses in Kashmir to speed up farm produce transportation

Facilities near Anantnag and Pampore stations to support apple growers, saffron traders; third such project planned at Bari Brahmana

Jammu, Oct 20 (KNS) : The Northern Railway has invited tenders for setting up warehouses near Anantnag and Pampore railway stations in Kashmir to improve storage facilities and facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce to major markets.

The two proposed facilities, along with a warehouse planned at Bari Brahmana near Jammu, are part of the Railways’ efforts to strengthen freight infrastructure and improve the movement of farm produce, officials said on Tuesday.

The Jammu railway division has invited private investors to develop and operate the warehouses under the Railways’ Cargo Related Facility (CRF) policy. The projects will be offered on a lease for 25 years.

The facilities are expected to benefit apple growers and saffron traders by providing storage infrastructure close to railway stations, reducing loading and unloading costs and helping minimise post-harvest losses.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, said the initiative would strengthen freight transportation and improve storage facilities for perishable agricultural produce.

The tenders have been made available on the Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS) portal, officials said.

On October 13, the division had invited tenders for developing a modern warehouse and storage facility at Bari Brahmana, marking the first project of its kind under the CRF policy in the division.

The three facilities are expected to improve the region’s agricultural logistics network and create employment opportunities, officials said. (KNS)
