Qayoom Wani appeals to govt to be ready in advance to meet challenges of new Covid variant

Srinagar, Nov 29 (KNS): With the emergence of new threatening variant of coronavirus, Omicron, Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani on Monday appealed to the government and all other stakeholder to be ready in advance to meet the challenges of new variant. 

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) here Chairman, Wani said Jammu and Kashmir has successfully come out of the COVID crisis despite all odds and its credit by and large goes to the health consciousness of the people of this region.

"However, notwithstanding any kind of missing or loophole in the ongoing struggle against Corona disease JKCSF raises a calling attention with the emergence of its new dangerous variant spread across many European countries." 

"We hope all stakeholders including government, medicos, paramedics, volunteers and welfare organizations will continue working with same pace and dedication to meet any future challenges of this continuing battle to safeguard humanity," he said. 

He appealed to the government and all other stakeholders to be ready in advance to meet the challenges of new variant. "Omicron, if (God forbade) it makes an entry here, it could be worrisome because the coming season is critical with regard to ailments generally too. All hospitals need to be equipped with sufficient bedding and the machinery and the oxygen gas which experts may deem necessary thereof."

He said that moreover, SOPs for COVID already in vogue must be ensured for implementation and practice and all kinds of gatherings need to be restricted. 

"Schools, coaching centers, and exam centers need to be revisited for SOP protocols after consultation with health experts. Life has a value and every step needs to be taken with precautions keeping the past experience, advisory of experts and world scenario in view," he said. (KNS)
