Provide ex gratia to bereaved family of Bhatgraan woman: Mohammad Husain Jugwal

SRINAGAR, June 19 (KNS): Expressing serious concern over the loss of precious lives due to frequent skirmishes along the Line of Control in Uri sector in district Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) leader Mohammad Hussain Jugwal on Friday demanded immediate construction of underground bunkers in order to save the civilian lives of forward areas in the border district.

In a statement issued to KNS, Jugwal also demanded immediate ex-gratia relief to the family of woman who lost her life in the cross LoC shelling in Bhatgraan village of Rampur sector of Uri. “The district administration should pay ex gratia relief to the bereaved family of slain woman and those civilians who sustained severe injuries or suffered damages to their residential structures during the cross border firing,” the JKAP leader demanded.

Jugwal extended solidarity with the bereaved family of the slain woman and prayed for speedy recovery of the people who sustained injuries during the shelling incident.

“It is unfortunate that there is no letup in shelling even during the COVID-19 pandemic, causing more worries to the civilian population living in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir especially in Uri sector,” the JKAP leader observed.

Referring to the increase in the incidents of ceasefire violations along the LoC in Uri sector since August 2019, the JKAP leader said that in view of the heightened cross-border skirmishes, the Centre must sanction and order speedy construction of concrete, underground bunkers for all the left out border areas of Baramulla district.

He said that the bunkers have been found to be an effective response to cross-LoC shelling, providing the residents a safe place to save themselves during the shelling incidents. “The residents of Uri sector have been the worst victims of skirmishes and hostilities along LoC. So the government of India should take concrete measures for their safety and security,” the JKAP leader remarked.

He said the inhabitants of Uri sector live in constant fear and agony due to the estrangement on the border and the administration also seems helpless in saving the precious lives in absence of the requisite infrastructure.

“People living in these areas have suffered deaths, injuries and loss of property amid intense firing and mortar shelling from across the border. The Ministry of Home Affairs in Government of India must ensure availability of sufficient funds to district administration for construction of bunkers at least meant for two to three households jointly especially in Uri sector,” he demanded.

He urged the district administration Baramulla to ensure free food, ration, medicines and other essential items in frontier areas of Baramulla in view of the COVID-19 lockdown. “The government should ensure free distribution of masks, sanitizers, food and ration to the areas in the Uri sector which have been declared as Red Zones by the administration,” he appealed.
