Police solve bizarre murder case within hours in Srinagar, accused held

Srinagar, Dec 17 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said that it solved a bizarre murder case of an elderly woman of Lal Bazar area of Srinagar by arresting the accused within hours. 

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), last night police station Lal bazar received an information wherein an elderly lady namely Mala widow of Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh was murdered brutally by some unknown person, leaving her in a pool of blood at her residence.

It reads that while digging deep, it surfaced that the family had hired a domestic help Omprakash Saha of Tatuli village of Uttarakhand from an agency on a contract for a year. “It also surfaced that the helper was also missing and probably fled the scene 4 hours before the reporting of the incident.”

It reads that different teams were deputed to different locations and the vehicle used by the suspect was traced to Jammu, which was timely intercepted and accused arrested who confessed to committing the crime. “Prime motive apparently seems to have been the robbing of jewellery which the victim was donning at the time of incident.”

The statement reads that the investigation of the case was taken up and the case was solved within one hour of reportage of the incident.

It reads that the case was being supervised by SP Hazratbal Irshad Hussain Rather and SDPO Zadibal Shafat Ahmed, and was being investigated by SHO Lalbazar Samir Jamid.

It reads that further revealation and role of consultancy agencies while providing of these domestic helps without following norms are being looked into and accordingly legal action will follow.

“People have appreciated the role of Srinagar police for such professionally investigation.”

Meanwhile, the police have requested people to get their tenants and domestic helps verified from their concerned police stations. (KNS)
