Bandipora, Aug 3 (KNS): The Bandipora Police on Monday rescued more than 80 people and shifted several families to safer locations after multiple cloudbursts and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall hit different parts of the district.
Official sources told the Kashmir News Service (KNS) that cloudbursts were reported in Arin, Dardpora, Sumlar and Aragam, while a sharp rise in the water level at the Tangwani-Garoora bridge created an emergency-like situation, prompting immediate rescue operations under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora.
Police teams rescued around 80 stranded persons from Neelupati Sirender and evacuated them to safer places. In Tota Mode, two families whose houses were damaged in the flash floods were shifted to safety, while three houses suffered damage in Sathri.
In Gori Hajin Aragam, police personnel, assisted by JCB machines, evacuated several families trapped by floodwaters. The Aragam Police also rescued passengers stranded near the Tangwani bridge, ensuring their safe evacuation.

Officials said that despite damage to residential houses and infrastructure in several areas, no loss of life has been reported, attributing it to the swift and coordinated response of the Bandipora Police and other emergency agencies.
On the directions of the SSP Bandipora, police teams remained deployed at vulnerable locations across the district to monitor the situation and extend immediate assistance wherever required.
The rescue operations drew widespread appreciation from residents, who lauded the police for their timely intervention, professionalism and commitment during the crisis.
Officials said Bandipora Police remain on high alert and continue to monitor the situation closely. They added that the district police have consistently remained at the forefront during natural disasters and emergencies, responding promptly to safeguard lives and assist the public whenever such situations arise.
