Srinagar, July 02 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police has said that some vested interests were spreading rumours that Zakir Naik, who was killed in Kulgam encounter was not a militant. 

A senior police official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Zakir Naik, who was killed in Kulgam encounter on June 30 had joined militant ranks only a few days ago before he was killed. 

He said that there was no truth in the rumours that Zakir was not a militant. 

Meanwhile, police appealed to the people not to believe in rumours and warned that legal action will be taken against those who are spreading rumours. (KNS)
