Police arrests drug peddler in Handwara, Psychotropic substances recovered

Handwara June 05 (KNS): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested one drug peddler in Handwara and recovered psychotropic substances from his possession.

A Police party of Police Post Langate led during Naka checking at Main Market Langate intercepted one person in a suspicious condition who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. During search, 700ml of Codeine and 103 tablets of banned drugs were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Afroz Ahmad Shah son of Bashir Ahmad Shah resident of Chek Langate. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.151/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.(KNS)
