Srinagar 14 May (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference senior leader and former MLA Adv Bashir Ahmed Dar on friday expressed concern over the large-scale damage caused to crops and orchards in north Kashmir’s Kupwara due to a recent hailstorm.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Adv Bashir Ahmed Dar said that the damage caused due to hailstorm is massive and that the government must assess the damage and mitigate farmers at an earliest.

He said that the orchardists and agriculturalists in Kashmir are bearing the brunt of nature’s fury and the government must come out with a comprehensive roadmap so that the victims of this climate change aren’t made to suffer any further.

"The hailstorm on Saturday afternoon caused damage to orchards and walnut trees in many villages of Handwara including, Mawer, Qaziabad, Rajwar, in Handwara area of Kupwara district and Rafiabad in district Baramulla.
There is a dire need that the government must mitigate the losses of the farmers in Kupwara. I urge District Administration for a quick assessment of the crop damage", he added.(KNS)
