PDP’s Waheed Para questions NC’s stand on Iran strikes

Srinagar, Mar 5 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Para on Thursday criticised the ruling National Conference (NC) over what he termed as a delayed and unclear response to the recent US–Israel strikes on Iran.

In a statement, Para said NC president Farooq Abdullah had sought clarification from the Government of India on the issue a week after the strikes, by which time, he claimed, thousands had died, including Iran’s Supreme Leader.

He said protests had taken place in Kashmir and several Muslim-majority countries condemning the attack, and questioned what he described as the Centre’s departure from India’s traditional foreign policy stance.

Para also targeted the Jammu and Kashmir government, alleging that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the NC leadership had avoided issuing a strong condemnation of the strikes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“Instead of clearly calling out the attack, the NC described it merely as a ‘recent development’,” Para said.

The PDP leader asked why the government had not passed a formal resolution through the cabinet if it intended to take a clear stand on the issue. He also questioned why statements were being issued from the party office instead of the government taking an official position.

“At moments like these, there was an opportunity to show moral clarity and stand in solidarity with the victims in Iran,” Para said, adding that silence on such issues raised questions.(KNS)
