Operating with 50 Percent Capacity not viable: Kashmir Transporters

Srinagar 26 April (KNS): Kashmir Transporters on Monday said that they are not economically viable to operate their vehicles with 50% capacity.

Talking to reporters, the Hazratbal wing of Transporters said that from August 05, 2019, they have been continuously off the roads and no assistance was provided to them from the Government side.
They also said that, as the 2nd wave of Covid-19 engulfed the Country along with the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir again, the government issued an order that Transporters have to operate with  50% of passengers only.

"It is not feasible for transporters to ply their vehicles with 50 per cent passengers on board. The fuel prices are skyrocketing and the transporters were the hardest hit since the outbreak of the pandemic”, they said as per Kashmir News Service.

Pertinently, among the new COVID-19 control measures announced, Govt said that public transport (matadors/mini-buses/buses) shall be permitted to ply only at 50 per cent of its authorised seating capacity, and only half of the shops in market complexes, bazaars and malls within the municipal or urban local body limits shall be opened on an alternate basis through a rotation system.(KNS)
