Omar Abdullah Slams Govt for Ignoring Drug Addiction in J&K

Srinagar, June 13 (KNS): National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed grave concerns over the long-standing issue of drug addiction plaguing the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that It has been observed for a very long time that UT is gripped by drug addiction.

Abdullah also criticized the government's lack of action on the rising drug menace, accusing them of being indifferent to the suffering of the people.  "It has been observed for a very long time that J&K is gripped by drug addiction. The govt is issuing statements on tourism and others but seems unmoved over the rising drug menace," he said.

"People are nowhere happy in J&K. The crises are everywhere, and people are stuck in it." "Had everything been normal, they (GoI) would have conducted an election in J&K," he said.

"For years, J&K has been grappling with a growing drug addiction crisis that has affected countless lives and communities across the region. Despite the gravity of the situation," he said and noted that the government has prioritised other issues, such as tourism, while neglecting the urgent need to address the drug problem.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, Abdullah suggested that the government's failure to address the drug addiction crisis has prevented the state from achieving normalcy. He asserted that if conditions were stable, the government would have conducted elections in J&K by now.(KNS)
