Srinagar, Sept 2 (KNS): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Wednesday said that the massive protest march at Lal Chowk towards the Civil Secretariat reflects growing public anger over the alleged failures, broken promises and lack of transparency of the National Conference government.

Addressing the issue, Sharma said people across Jammu & Kashmir, particularly the youth, are seeking answers on unemployment, electricity tariffs, recruitment and promises made by the National Conference before coming to power.

“Omar Abdullah promised 200 units of free electricity, no smart meters, 10 kg of ration and one lakh jobs. The people of J&K want to know—where are these promises? People elected the government to improve their lives and create opportunities, not to make excuses,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition also raised questions over the engagement of thousands of people through outsourcing.

“In the Assembly proceedings, the Chief Minister himself spoke about the engagement of around 20,000–25,000 people through outsourcing. This raises a fundamental question of transparency and merit. If posts are being filled through contractors, the government must clarify the recruitment mechanism and ensure that every eligible candidate gets an equal and transparent opportunity,” Sharma said.

He further questioned whether such positions would be advertised through a proper recruitment process and made available to all eligible candidates.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“Will these posts be advertised and opened to all eligible candidates through a transparent, merit-based process? The people deserve a clear answer. Government employment cannot become a source of political favouritism or backdoor appointments,” he added.

Sharma said the BJP stands firmly with the people of J&K and will continue to raise their concerns both inside and outside the Assembly.

“The message from Lal Chowk is clear: the people want jobs, merit, transparency, development and accountability—not backdoor arrangements and favouritism. The government cannot ignore the voice of the people,” he said.

He also accused the NC government of failing to live up to expectations created during the election campaign.

“Three generations of J&K have heard promises. Today, the people are asking for results. They want employment, dignity and a fair opportunity to build their future. The government must honour its commitments and explain what has been done on the promises made to the people,” Sharma said.

The Leader of Opposition asserted that the BJP would continue to act as the voice of the people and hold the government accountable on issues concerning governance, employment, electricity, recruitment and development.

“People of J&K will not remain silent. BJP will continue to raise the voice of the people and fight for transparency, merit and justice,” he said.(KNS)
