Nizamuddin Bhat appeals J&K Admin to review cases of detenues

Bandipora, Dec 22 (KNS): Former Vice-Chairman Muslim Waqf Board and founder leader of Peoples Conference Nizamuddin Bhat Thursday  urged LG administration to conduct review of  the cases of detenues and others booked under UAPA.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) the former legislator said in many of such cases involve educated youth, members of abysmally poor families and others conditioned by a viscous atmosphere. "Therefore, they deserve a lenient view and compassion".

Bhat said amnesties and liberal approach towards cases of such nature in past have helped process of reformation which has been one of the major factors for restoration of people's faith in peace and democracy.

The People Conference leader said various families have represented to authorities for a compassionate look into their distress and are awaiting a favourable response. "An early action on such representations was in the benefit of administration and its delivery system".

Bhat said the judicial review of various cases where such detainees got bail only show that not every case could stand scrutiny of law. "Any  review at administrative level can also help cases of lesser nature or innocence to restore liberty," Bhat said adding this would add to much needed trust building as a consequence.

He appealed to the Union Government to provide job opportunities to youth of J&K as a measure for reformation and positive engagement than a hunt for arrests and detention.

He said rising addiction to drugs is direct outcome of atmosphere of uncertainty, fear and choked space for growth and needs a useful substitute in ownership and love.

Bhat hoped that New Delhi will take measures so necessary to ensuring involvement of people in processes of stability, growth and democratic functioning.

"People of J&K deserve a space to live in free atmosphere full of freedom and opportunities. In a welfare state this brooks no delay," he added. (KNS)
