ACC stages Shakespeare’s tragic play, Macbeth

 

Srinagar, Mar 27:(KNS)  The Art and Culture Club of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar Sunday celebrated ‘World Theatre Day’ with the live stage performance of Shakespeare’s tragic play, Macbeth.

The event was conducted by Dr. Nasir F. Butt, convener, and coordinator of the Art and Culture Club. The event was presided over by the Director, NIT Srinagar Prof.  (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal as a chief guest.

Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari, Dean Student’s Welfare and Head Dept. Of HSS&M, Prof. Abdul Liman were special guests for the event, along with other Professors and faculty.

The event began with presenting of tokens of respect (Bookie) to Prof. Sehgal, Prof. Bukhari, and Prof. Liman by Dr. Nasir F Butt, organizer of the event.

On the occasion, Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Sehgal congratulated and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Nasir F Butt and the organizing team of the Club for conducting such events which had been a rarity in the institute for about a decade.

This day is celebrated to promote awareness regarding the significance of theatrical arts and how they have played an essential role in the area of fun,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal said promised that aprt from administrative, financial support will be provided to buy new equipment for Art and Culture Club.

“After completion of the new auditorium block, there will be a special gallery for art and culture activities,” Prof. Sehgal said.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said theatre is one of the most popular forms of art that depicts culture, a tradition that exists around the world.

 “The significance of this day is to raise awareness regarding the importance of theatre and to know the importance of theatre around the world,” he said.

 Prof. Liman, Dean Student Welfare appreciated the efforts and passion of the students who displayed their talent at the event.

He also promised every possible assistance to students that would be required to hone their skills along with their academic activities.

 Dr. Nasir F. Butt said the theatrical performance of ‘Macbeth’ proved a great success with a huge houseful crowd of spectators which were the students, faculty, and other administrative staff of the institution.

“The theater was performed by the B.Tech students of various branches of NIT Srinagar. It proved a great success and we will be holding such events in future also, he said.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Nasir F. Butt. He expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, students, and participants for making the event a grand success.(KNS)
