Speakers jointly pitch for joint efforts for the preservation of the environment and ecosystem

 

Srinagar, June 05 (KNS): National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Sunday organized the 2nd edition of the environmental symposium titled 'Our Relation With Nature' in collaboration with PSA, Institute’s IICE Student Chapter, and Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO).

The function was presided over by the Prof (Dr.) G A Harmain (Former Dean (R&C) and was the chief guest for the award ceremony. Prof. Harmain urged students to protect and conserve the environment at the individualistic level.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr) Rakesh Sehgal highlighted the objectives of world environment day and stated that the administration is committed to supporting all pro-environment initiatives.

He said the slogan for World Environment day 2022 is “Only One Earth”, which focuses on living sustainably in harmony with nature. Our planet is facing multiple crises from climate change to loss of biodiversity and an increase in carbon emissions,” Director NIT conveyed.

Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari in his telephonic message said that engineers have an important role in society and they are called builders of any nation. He laid emphasis on importance of forests and their role in the environment.

Chairman NLCO, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo said that in Kashmir, we have polluted each and every water body and wetlands and have turned them into the most terrible condition. 

He said the objective of celebrating environment day is to make the younger generation more sensitive toward environmental protection, particularly water bodies. He mentioned Khushalsar in his address.

Chairman, PSA G N Var, who supported the event said trees play an essential and important part in our ecosystem. Planting saplings is a future investment and we must encourage such practices on our campus. He coordinated the school children from almost all districts of the valley.

He appreciated the MA Shah's efforts in organizing such events on the campus. He said PSA will be holding such events in the future also.

Dr G N Qasba, in his address, said that we have to preserve the environment and gave importance to cleanliness. He has made emphases treatment plant for waste near NIT Srinagar. In his brief address he has appreciated Dr Shah for such wonderful programmes.

Shri M S Pandith, Former Chairman PSC, in his speech asked students to take active part in conserving the eco system. “Both engineers and environmentalists can work jointly for a sustainable government. We need joint efforts to preserve the environment,” he said.

HoD Physics, Prof. MA Shah was Chairperson of the symposium, while Dr. Tanveer Rasool and Dr. Zubair Ansari were the coordinators for the day-long program.

 In his keynote address, Dr. Shah highlighted the importance of forests and their role in the environment.  He said the main goal of the program was to encourage students to take a leading role in protecting the environment at grass root level.

He expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Sehgal, Prof M F Wani and Registrar NIT Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari for their support in organizing such events on the campus.

The event was followed by Quiz, debate, Essay  and painting competitions. A galaxy of Students volunteers of Eco Cult headed by Mr Fenil and IICh E have coordinated of these segments.

Prof M S Mir, Dean Alumni, who felicitated the guests, faculty members, and students for making the event successful.  He also pitched for a safe and clean environment. “From climate change and marine pollution to the depletion of flora and fauna, environmental issues have only increased with each passing decade,” Prof. Mir said.

 

Later the winners of these events were felicitated by galaxy of guests, Prof Mir, Prof Harmain, Prof N A Sheikh, Mr Var, Mr Ashai, Mr Wangnoo and Er Iajaz Naqashbandi and other dignitaries. The proceeding were conducted by Miss Sane and her team of Eco Cult.(KNS)
