NHM presents awards to best functionaries of ASHA, PMU J&K

January Srinagar 26 (KNS):  National Health Mission, J&K today presented awards to the best functionaries of ASHA Programme in the UT of J&K. A total of 108 best ASHAs, ASHA Facilitators, Block ASHA Coordinators,District ASHA Coordinators, State Trainers and Block/ District Programme Management Units bagged best functionary awards in recognition of contributions made by the outstanding achievers for making ASHA Programme and centrally sponsored schemes a success in the UT of J&K.

The awards in the form of Appreciation Certificates and cash reward worth Rs. 5000 per functionary were awarded by District Development Commissioners in all districts.

Sanjiv M Gadkar, MD, NHM J&K while giving details, informed that 2 ASHAs per District, 2 ASHA Facilitators per Division, 3 Block ASHA Coordinators per Division, 1 District ASHA Coordinator per Division and 1 State ASHA Trainer per Division have been awarded for being best achievers in their field. In addition, 1 District Programme Manager, 1 District Accounts Manager and 1 District Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, 2 Block Monitoring Evaluation Officers and 2 Block Accounts Managers per Division have been selected for awards for their best performance. The awards have been presented to the achievers by the concerned District Development Commissioners on the eve of 74thRepublic Day.

ASHA Programme implemented by NHM, J&K is a bridge between Health Department and the community. All the health schemes of NHM/ J&K Govt. are being implemented by ASHAs and their Cadres at the grass root level. ASHA is a link through which the health care needs of the people are being catered. Viewing their importance for Health care delivery at ground level and also during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sh. Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary, Health & Medical Education, J&K decided to present the best achievers awards for boosting the zeal of ASHAs and ASHA Cadres in the UT of J&K. Additionally, the programme management units under NHM J&K have been instrumental in implementing the centrally sponsored schemes to the grass root level and achieving the goals of the better health care in the UT of J&K.

At present, about 13000 ASHAs and ASHA Cadres have been working in the UT of J&K and about 300 officials of programme management units are working at block/ district level. Programmes of NHM J&K are very closely monitored and reviewed strictly and periodically by Sh. Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary, Health & Medical Education, J&K and Sanjiv M Gadkar, Mission Director, NHM, J&K.(KNS)
