Srinagar June 13 (KNS): The National Child Development Council (NCDC) Core commitee on Monday observed World Day Against Child Labour.
The members said that "throughout the world, around 218 million children work, many full-time, while they do not go to school and have little or no time to play, with many do not receive proper nutrition or care."
A statement issued by NCDC reads that "those children are denied the chance to be children. More than half of them are exposed to the worst forms of child labour such as work in hazardous environments, slavery, or other forms of forced labour, illicit activities including drug trafficking and prostitution, as well as involvement in armed conflict."
Master trainer of NCDC, Baba Alexander said that, "as a child development organization, we have been conducting various anti child labour awareness programs regularly in Kerala and as a result the child labour is not seen to be reported here. But it is still existing in other main states of India like Bihar, UP, Rajastan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra."
He said that all the social developed organizations and the government should take proper notice of the situation and help in the rehabilitation of such children.
"Fighting child labor requires a multi-pronged push, and there is a need to make this a people’s issue," Baba Alexander said.
