NC to field own candidates for Rajya Sabha: Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar, Oct 6(KNS): National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, said that all candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections will be from the party and the alliance. He ruled out the possibility of any "outsider" being fielded for the seats.

“Maybe they have discussed among themselves, because we have a lot of great leaders,” Sadiq told reporters, referring to internal party deliberations. “All the candidates will be from the National Conference, from the alliance. There will be no other candidate from outside.”

Responding to accusations by the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Sadiq said that such remarks were aimed at maintaining political relevance. “If the PDP has been destroyed, then it is because of them. So they will say such things,” he said as per KNS. “Why should we give our seat or responsibility to someone else? We have our own leadership.”

Asked about consensus with the Congress party, Sadiq confirmed that talks were ongoing. “Congress has reached out to our leadership. Now the leadership is thinking about it,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“The National Conference would like that, like last time during assembly elections, where we made many sacrifices for Congress.”

He said the decision would ultimately be taken by the party's high command, and that Congress was also engaged in discussions. “As of today, no final decision has been made,” he said.

Speaking on the issue of statehood, Sadiq said that the NC continues to raise the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “First there was delimitation, then elections were promised. These two things have happened. Now we are asking the same thing again and again. How much longer do we have to wait?” he asked.

On recent criticism by the PDP regarding a case in Baramulla involving the Chief Education Officer, Sadiq said the matter was first initiated in 2017 when Mehbooba Mufti was the Chief Minister. “This order came out first then. They always forget their past,” he said. “The education department is looking into it. Where we find mistakes, we are correcting them.”(KNS).
